Legal Aid Society Honors Sara Moss with Servant of Justice Award

Sara E. Moss, Executive Vice President and General Counsel, was honored by The Legal Aid Society with its Servant of Justice Award, presented at the organization’s annual fundraising dinner in New York City on May 11, 2017. This prestigious award recognizes lawyers who embody the highest ideals of law and a relentless commitment to the pursuit of equitable justice.
The Servant of Justice Award was presented to Ms. Moss by her long-time friend and colleague Mary Jo White, former Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. “Anyone who knows Sara at all knows she is a ‘take no prisoners’ person and advocate when she is fighting for her principles, her clients, her friends, her family, and for whatever and whomever else she considers important,” said Mary Jo White. “You can count on her always to be there for you, fighting for you and with you.”
As Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society, Ms. Moss is a leading advocate for the provision of legal services to low-income New Yorkers. Her unwavering support for the legal profession is reflected in her dedication to The Legal Aid Society and its clients. Among her numerous contributions as a 12-year Legal Aid Society member, Ms. Moss has testified about the urgent need for civil legal services for New York’s poor before the Chief Judge’s Commission on Legal Services. Ms. Moss is highly regarded for her passion for the law, higher education and community engagement.
Ms. Moss currently serves across several other distinguished boards including the New York University Law School, the New York Common Pantry, the M·A·C AIDS Fund and The Estée Lauder Companies Charitable Foundation.

Ms. Moss was recognized along with Marc Wolinsky, Litigation Partner at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. Proceeds from the awards dinner will benefit the Society’s Civil Practice, which represents approximately 128,000 vulnerable New Yorkers including senior citizens, children and adults with disabilities, survivors of domestic violence, immigrants, low-wage workers, persons living with HIV/AIDS, and homeless and imminently homeless children and adults.
The Legal Aid Society is a private, not-for-profit legal services organization that has provided quality legal representation to low-income New Yorkers since 1896. It is the oldest and largest organization of its kind in the nation, and is guided by the founding principle that no New Yorker should be denied access to justice because of poverty.
