Lauder Summer Internship Program Sparks Mutual Learning

Company Feature

Summers at The Estée Lauder Companies wouldn’t be complete without a cadre of passionate interns joining the ranks for a stimulating 10-week Lauder Summer Internship Program. With representation from leading universities across the country, interns are strategically placed throughout different corporate functions and 25+ brands best suited to their academic backgrounds and concentrations. With positions across Marketing, Communications, Finance, Product Development, e-Commerce and more, the program offers college students the opportunity to think critically in real-world corporate situations.

Summer interns learned about the business from William P. Lauder, Executive Chairman, and Fabrizio Freda, CEO

The 2017 internship program was held from early-June to mid-August and included several customized events where interns learned from employees and senior leadership about their roles within the Company. A major highlight was a session with William P. Lauder, Executive Chairman, and Fabrizio Freda, President & CEO, who shared their corporate business overviews followed by a lively Q&A with the interns.

In keeping with the Company’s values and commitment to citizenship, the interns joined together for a day of community service at God’s Love We Deliver and New York Common Pantry, two local nonprofit organizations. One of the final events took place at LinkedIn headquarters, located in the Empire State Building, where interns learned how to professionally brand themselves and improve their digital presence.

For most of the students, the most exciting event was a meet and greet with Chairman Emeritus Leonard A. Lauder and his wife Judy Lauder. Mr. Lauder reflected on his experience as a young man starting off in the business world. He discussed the great effort and dedication required to build a family company, all while echoing the values instilled in him by his mother, Mrs. Estée Lauder. He reiterated the importance of working hard while interning at the Company, and underscored that interns have the opportunity to make valuable contributions throughout their experience.

Summer interns spent time speaking to and learning from employees at various events

“We work hard to create meaningful experiences for our interns while enriching our organization with fresh ideas, and the latest skills and sensibilities,” said Jolie Chehadeh, Vice President of Global Talent Management. “We value the opportunity to introduce talented, motivated students to our business as we strategically cultivate a network of future employees.”

By summer’s end, all interns were expected to summarize their experience in a presentation to their respective teams, including key learnings and how their specific projects positively impacted the Company. “I was encouraged to push my own boundaries and utilize my skillsets,” said Chloé Gronsbell, a Global Communications intern. “I truly felt like my manager and team had my best interest at heart and it was motivating to see that my hard work directly contributed to projects that drove the success of the team and the Company.”

The Lauder Summer Internship Program is for undergraduate and graduate students in the U.S. Global locations offer internship opportunities based on business needs. Enrollment for the 2018 Lauder Summer Internship Program will begin in September 2017.
